Meet Ray Tyler
Ray Tyler is a dynamic leader, seasoned entrepreneur, and a passionate advocate for economic empowerment in Black and Brown communities. With a career that spans over a decade in banking, finance, and community development, Ray has honed the skills, insights, and commitment necessary to lead the United Alliance for Black and Brown People (UABBP) into a new era of impactful investments and sustainable change.
A Personal Journey of Resilience and Purpose
Born and raised in the ghettos of Detroit and Durham, Ray’s early life was shaped by the systemic inequities faced by many in underserved communities. After his father was incarcerated when Ray was just 8 years old, he was forced to navigate the challenges of being a young Black man in America without guidance. These early struggles only strengthened his resolve to build a life of purpose.
Ray's journey took a heartbreaking turn in 2017 when he lost his first wife and daughter due to medical neglect—a tragedy that further fueled his mission to confront and dismantle the structures that perpetuate inequality. His story of perseverance through personal and professional challenges has given him a deep understanding of the obstacles that Black and Brown communities face—and the resilience needed to overcome them.
A Proven Leader with a Global Vision
Ray has leveraged his leadership experience at Bank of America, US Bank, and Target into building successful ventures as a full-time entrepreneur. He has a reputation for delivering top-performing results, particularly in customer experience and financial strategy, and is widely respected for his ability to turn ideas into thriving businesses.
As a graduate of North Carolina Central University, an HBCU, with a degree in Mass Communication (Journalism focus), Ray brings a keen understanding of media narrative control—a critical component of UABBP’s strategy to shape the public dialogue around community investments. His connections within news media, combined with his Six Sigma Green Belt from Villanova University, give him the operational precision and strategic insight to execute UABBP’s initiatives with world-class efficiency.
A Long-Term Commitment to Change
Ray has committed the next 20-40 years of his life to leading UABBP and creating lasting change in Black and Brown communities. His ability to bridge the gap between donations, philanthropic organizations, private equity firms, and underserved communities makes him a trusted connector in both worlds. With a clear mission of driving economic empowerment through public-private partnerships, Ray’s vision for UABBP is to unlock the full potential of Black and Brown communities, both in the U.S. and globally.
Ray Tyler is not only a leader, but also a man who embodies the principles of UABBP: resilience, purpose, and unwavering dedication to creating a future where profit and purpose thrive together.
